MathMind is a mental-maths brain game for all ages, published by CryoSim. In short: MathMind never asks for your name, e-mail, contacts or location. There are no accounts, no sign-in and no ads. For players under 13 — and until an age is chosen — the app (from version 2.4.3) sends nothing about the player to the internet. For players aged 13 and over it sends CryoSim three things: a scrambled device ID with your points, anonymous usage events, and — while "Compete worldwide" is on (it is off by default from version 2.3; earlier versions had it on) — your leaderboard score. Each is described below.
MathMind does not ask for your name, email, phone number, location, contacts, photos, or any other personal details, and it does not require you to create an account or sign in. The age you choose in Settings decides what is sent. Under 13, or before an age is chosen, none of the items below are sent (from version 2.4.3): there are no points-backup or invite calls, no usage events and no leaderboard, and points are kept on the phone only. For players aged 13 and over, when the phone is online, it sends the following to our server at cryosim.com:
MathMind includes a weekly worldwide leaderboard for players aged 13 and over (from version 2.4.3 it is not offered to younger players). It is controlled by a single switch in Settings → Compete worldwide, which is off by default from version 2.3 (versions before 2.3 had it on; you can switch it either way at any time). While it is on, the app sends four things to our server at cryosim.com when you finish a scoring run and when the app refreshes your standing:
The leaderboard does not store IP addresses, country, or device information. Turning the switch off stops the leaderboard uploads immediately; the points and usage events described above continue.
In Settings → Privacy, "Start over as a new player" deletes every leaderboard row belonging to your player id from our server and gives you a fresh random player id (your nickname, levels, points and badges stay). No request or email is needed. You can also email us at the address below and we will delete it for you.
Everything else — your saved age, level progress, points, XP, badges, daily streak, quests and settings — is stored on your device. Apart from the items described above, it is not uploaded to us. If Android backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may copy this app data into your Google account backup. Uninstalling the app removes it from the phone.
MathMind contains no advertisements and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and it does not use an advertising ID. It does use CryoSim's own first-party usage events described above.
MathMind is suitable for students, including children. It does not ask anyone, including children, for a name, e-mail, contacts or location, and it does not ask for a date of birth — only an age, used to set the difficulty. From version 2.4.3, when the chosen age is under 13 (or no age has been chosen yet) the app sends nothing about the player to the internet: no scrambled device ID, no usage events, no invite codes and no leaderboard; the invite feature and the leaderboard switch are hidden, and points stay on the phone. The items listed above apply only to players aged 13 and over. The leaderboard was designed specifically with younger players in mind: there is no free-text entry anywhere in the app, no chat, no messaging, no profile photos and no way for one player to contact another. Nicknames come from a fixed word list chosen by us, so no child can be identified by their leaderboard entry and no inappropriate text can appear on it. For players aged 13 and over the leaderboard is off until they switch it on; it can be turned off again in Settings.
MathMind requests no sensitive device permissions. It does not use the camera, microphone, location, contacts, or your personal files. It may ask to show notifications for the optional daily practice reminder. Its internet connection is used for the points, usage events and leaderboard described above (players aged 13 and over only), and for Google Play's in-app update check, in-app review prompt and install referrer (which tells the app how it was installed).
