How to use EchoDoc
EchoDoc reads your Word or PDF documents aloud in your browser and lights up each word as it is spoken. You can also edit, highlight and export them.
1Start here
- Tap 📂 Open and pick a Word file (.docx) or a PDF — or drag and drop it onto the page.
- Tap ▶ Read Aloud. Each word lights up as it is read. Tap ⏹ Stop to stop; ↺ Resume carries on from where you left off.
- To start from a certain place, double-click a word, then tap ▶ Read Aloud.
- Pick a Voice and move the Speed or Pitch slider. Changes apply straight away. (On a phone, tap ⚙ Voice.)
- Want to keep it? Use ⬇ Export Word or 🖨️ Export PDF, or sign in and tap 💾 Save.

Word and PDF
A .docx opens as editable text (headings, bold, lists). A PDF is shown page by page exactly as it looks, with its text ready to be read.

Edit and highlight
Turn on ✏️ Edit to type, use B / I / U, and select text then 🖍 Highlight to mark it. ✕ Clear HL removes a highlight.

My Documents (signed in)
Save documents to your account and sort them into folders. Tap a document to Open, Rename, Delete or move it.

3Sign-in, data & privacy
- Without an account you can open 2 documents a day (reopening the same one that day is free), and read aloud, edit and export them. Files you open are kept under 🕘 Recent in this browser only.
- Signing in (Sign in with Google) is free. It gives unlimited documents every day and adds 📁 My Documents: documents you 💾 Save are stored in your cryosim.com workspace and only you can open them.
- Voices come from your browser and device. Natural voices marked ⭐ (in Microsoft Edge) are streamed from Microsoft and need an internet connection.
4Common questions
I hear no voice. What do I do?
Install a text-to-speech voice in your device settings, or open EchoDoc in Microsoft Edge for its online natural voices.
Why won’t my PDF read aloud?
A scanned PDF is only a picture of text, so there is nothing to read. EchoDoc tells you when this happens.
Can I edit a PDF?
A PDF is shown exactly as it looks and is not editable. ⬇ Export Word saves its text as a Word file you can edit.
Do I need to sign in?
Not to try it: 2 documents a day are free without an account. Sign in free for unlimited documents, and to keep documents in My Documents and open them on another device.
What does a .docx import keep?
Text, bold and italic, headings and lists. Images, tables and colours are not imported yet.
