Device Practice

Use the MSA Altair 4X controls the way an operator would.

MSA Altair 4X gas monitor

MODE Button

Short press: cycle display modes Live → Peak → STEL → TWA (returns to Live after 30 s idle). Brief hold (~1 s) to power on; 3-second hold to power off. Short press resets a latching alarm once gas drops below warning threshold.

Display Modes

Live — current real-time readings. Peak — highest (or lowest for O2) readings since power-on. STEL — 15-minute short-term exposure limit average for CO and H₂S. TWA — 8-hour time-weighted average for CO and H₂S.

Alarm Behaviour

Two alarm levels: LOW (warning) and HIGH (danger). Alarms latch — once triggered they stay active even if the gas drops. To clear a latched alarm: ensure gas is below the LOW setpoint, then short-press MODE.
