How to use DG Exit Exam

DG Exit Exam is free multiple-choice practice for the exit exams at the end of STCW modular courses — the short safety and tanker courses every seafarer takes — set on the pattern used by India’s DG Shipping (Directorate General of Shipping). STCW is the IMO convention on seafarers’ training and certification.

1Start here

  1. Tap Choose your course and pick yours by its code — for example PST (Personal Survival Techniques), AFF (Advanced Fire Fighting) or PSSR (Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities).
  2. On the course page tap Start practising, then pick Set 1. A set is the size of the real paper (the last set may be shorter).
  3. Tap an answer. It is marked straight away, and most questions show a Why explanation.
  4. Move with Next → and ← Back; tap ⚑ Flag for review on anything you guessed. On the last question tap Finish to see your score against the pass mark, then a full review.
  5. When you know the sets, tap Reshuffle sets for completely new sets from the same bank, and sit the Mock exam.

2The main features

Practice sets

The whole course bank cut into sets of 30. Nothing is locked; your best result is shown on each set card.

Mock exam

A fresh random paper drawn from the whole course bank every time, marked out of 30 like the real exam.

Reshuffle

Re-deals every question in the bank into new sets and shuffles the four options too — so you learn the answers, not their positions.

4Common questions

What is an exit exam?

The short online multiple-choice test at the end of an STCW modular course: in India, 30 questions in 30 minutes, run by DG Shipping and sat at your training institute. This app helps you practise for it; the exit exam guide (/projects/dgexit/exam-guide) has the rules and sources.

What is the pass mark?

15 out of 30 (50%). Each course page shows it, and every full set and the mock are scored against it.

Do I need an account?

Not for your first test each day: signed out you get one free test a day (a set or the mock). A free sign-in with your Google account gives unlimited tests and saves your scores to your account instead of this browser.

Why does Set 3 have different questions now?

Reshuffle sets was pressed in this browser. The sets keep their size, but their questions change completely.

Can I use a keyboard?

Yes: 1–4 or A–D picks an answer, → moves on, and F flags a question for review.

Can a training institute use it with a batch?

Yes, freely. Send the course link to the batch; each candidate practises on their own phone and sees their own scores. There is no instructor dashboard.
