SSC GD Constable 2027: pattern, syllabus and free practice
The Constable (GD) in CAPFs and SSF, and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles Examination is SSC's 10th-pass exam for the armed police forces. This page sets out what SSC itself has published: the tentative months for the 2027 exam, the one-paper computer-based test, the marking and the syllabus. From para 12.1 of the GD 2026 notice: one objective paper of 80 questions, 2 marks each (160 marks), in 60 minutes. 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. Questions are of Matriculation level and calculators are not allowed. Candidates shortlisted on the computer-based test go on to the Physical Standard Test / Physical Efficiency Test, the medical examination and document verification, which the CAPFs conduct.

- Matriculation or 10th class pass from a recognised board (para 7 of the 2026 notice).
- Age (2026 notice)
- 18–23 years as on 01-01-2026, with the usual category relaxations (para 5).
- Forces
- Constable (GD) in BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and SSF, and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles.
- Languages
- English, Hindi and 13 regional languages (para 12.1.1).
Syllabus, in SSC's words
- Reasoning
- Mainly non-verbal: analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualisation and orientation, visual memory, observation, relationships, arithmetical reasoning, figural classification, number and non-verbal series, coding-decoding.
- GK & awareness
- Everyday science, current events, and India and its neighbours: sports, history, culture, geography, economy, polity and the Constitution, scientific research.
- Maths
- Number systems, whole numbers, decimals and fractions, fundamental operations, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and distance, time and work.
- English / Hindi
- Basic understanding and comprehension of English or Hindi.

Questions
When is the SSC GD Constable exam 2027?
SSC's tentative calendar for 2026-27 lists the Constable (GD) Examination, 2027 with the advertisement in September 2026, the closing date in October 2026 and the exam in January – March 2027. When we checked on 18 October 2026, the 2027 notice was not yet on SSC's notice board, so watch ssc.gov.in for the firm dates.
What is the SSC GD exam pattern?
In the 2026 notice it is one computer-based paper of 80 questions in 60 minutes: 20 each of reasoning, general knowledge, elementary maths and English or Hindi, 2 marks per question, 160 marks in all.
Is there negative marking in SSC GD?
Yes. The 2026 notice deducts 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
Are these questions from past GD papers?
No. SSC Saathi's questions are original practice questions at Matriculation level, with explanations in English and Hindi. They are not copied from past papers.
