Add GST: Total = Base × (1 + g ÷ 100) · Remove GST: Base = Total × 100 ÷ (100 + g)
Within one state the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST; for an inter-state sale the same total is charged as IGST.
At 18% GST:
| ₹10,000 + GST | ₹11,800 (GST ₹1,800) |
|---|---|
| CGST + SGST | ₹900 + ₹900 |
| ₹11,800 including GST | base ₹10,000, GST ₹1,800 |
Adding and removing GST are exact inverses: 18% added to ₹10,000 gives ₹11,800, and removing it from ₹11,800 gives ₹10,000 back.
Load these numbers into the calculator →Because the GST was charged on the base, not on the total. 18% of ₹11,800 is ₹2,124, but the GST inside ₹11,800 is only ₹1,800. Divide by 1.18 instead.
