About this Panchang

How is this Panchang calculated?

It is computed, not copied: Sun and Moon positions from Jean Meeus's astronomical algorithms with the Lahiri ayanamsa, and sunrise and sunset from the standard 90.833° solar zenith. Tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are the ones prevailing at sunrise in New Delhi.

Why can it differ from my printed panchang?

Printed panchangs use finer planetary tables and your own town's sunrise. Timings here can differ by a few minutes, and a tithi that changes close to sunrise can be listed a day apart. For religious observances, follow your family or temple panchang.

How are Rahu Kaal and Choghadiya worked out?

Daylight from sunrise to sunset is split into eight equal parts. Rahu Kaal, Gulika Kaal and Yamaganda each take a fixed part for the weekday, and the eight day Choghadiya follow the traditional weekday order. That is why they shift a little from city to city.
