Number Span — a free digit span memory game
Number Span is MindFit's digit span game. A number appears for a few seconds, disappears, and you type it back. Get it right and the next number is one digit longer; get one digit wrong and the run ends.
It works the same short-term memory you use to hold a phone number, an OTP or a price for the few seconds before you write it down.
How to play
- A 4-digit number is shown first.
- It stays on screen for about 3 seconds at 4 digits, and roughly half a second longer for every extra digit.
- When it disappears, type the number and press Check (or Enter).
- Correct: the next number is one digit longer. Wrong: the run ends.
How the score works
Your score is the longest number you typed back correctly. Missing the very first 4-digit number scores 0.
What it trains
Verbal short-term memory — holding a string of digits in mind for a few seconds.
Tips to score higher
- Chunk the digits into groups of three or four and say the groups to yourself — 7 4 5 8 9 3 becomes "745 · 893".
- Say it once in your head while it is still on screen; do not try to "photograph" it.
- For long numbers, a number-peg story turns each digit into a picture you can replay.
