Navigation

26 questions in RISQ 3.2

  • Inspectors often trace one voyage from berth to berth, so the current plan should cover pilotage waters as well as the open sea.
  • Chart and ENC corrections are easiest to prove when the correction log, notices and ECDIS update record all tell the same story.
  • Compass error records show whether the bridge team checks its instruments routinely or only in the days before an inspection.
  • Keep publications current and know where each one lives, paper or electronic, so any of them can be produced in moments.

Radio and Communication

8 questions in RISQ 3.2

  • On many dry-cargo ships the Second Officer is the designated radio operator, so the GMDSS logbook is theirs to explain.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly equipment tests should be logged as the SMS sets out, with any faults and follow-up recorded.
  • Safety information should be received, read and acted on where relevant, not simply printed and left in a tray.
  • Expiry dates on EPIRB, SART and radio batteries are quick to check, so any lapse suggests weak planned maintenance.

RightShip Pro is an independent preparation tool made by CryoSim. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by RightShip. The notes and checks on these pages are CryoSim's own preparation guidance, not RightShip question text; section numbers, titles and question counts refer to the published RISQ 3.2 questionnaire. The current RightShip publications, your company's SMS and flag requirements always take precedence. Tanker? See the SIRE 2.0 checklists.
